Newborn Hearing Screenings
Maryland law requires that newborns receive a newborn hearing screening at birth to evaluate their audiological health. If your child was not born in a hospital, missed its newborn hearing screening, or failed the first screening test that they received in the hospital, then you will need the help of an experienced audiologist who understands how to thoroughly and accurately assess the health of your baby’s hearing.
At Bay Area Audiology, our team of experts have extensive experience evaluating and diagnosing hearing loss in patients of all ages, including newborn babies.
We use state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques that do not require a response from your child, so we will be able to accurately assess the root causes of your child’s hearing loss even though they cannot speak yet. Unlike many other infant audiology diagnostic techniques, our newborn hearing evaluations do not require the child to be asleep during the procedure, making the process simple and straightforward. The results of the test will be explained to you so that you understand exactly what your child is experiencing and after the evaluation has been completed, we will send a copy of your child’s hearing report to their pediatrician within 24 hours of their scheduled appointment time and we will also report the results to the state, as required by local law.
If your child needs a referral to a specialized medical professional, we will be able to connect you with the right professional and provide a referral. If your child requires a hearing aid, we will work closely with you to determine the best technology for their needs and ensure that their device is properly fitted and programmed for their needs.
